The secret to my successful classroom culture

The strategy that most effectively contributed to fostering a positive classroom culture in my teaching journey was the implementation of classroom jobs.

If you're a middle or high school teacher, you may be thinking: "

Aren't classroom jobs more suited for elementary classes?"

I don't think so.

I believe that as students get older, we should be giving them MORE classroom responsibility, not LESS.

Classroom jobs do more than just reduce your workload as a teacher. They can:

✅ empower students
✅ teach 21st century skills
✅ foster a sense of community

You're giving students ownership of their learning environment.

Imagine your class having a dedicated podcaster, bringing to life the stories and learnings from your classroom.

Or a supply manager, ensuring everything is in its place and readily available when needed.

And yes, you could even have a class barista, ensuring you always have a fresh cup of coffee ready to go each morning (using that Keurig in the back of the room that you think no one knows about).

To help you get started, I’ve created a comprehensive list of 26 Student Jobs for the Classroom of Tomorrow, including roles like those I just mentioned and many more.

Classroom jobs, when implemented effectively, can be a game-changer for your classroom culture and go a long way in preparing your students for the world beyond the classroom walls.

What questions do you have about class jobs?
